Changes to Data Gateway: Accessing New Student Achievement Results

This presentation will focus on how to access, understand and utilize new statewide assessment results in the Utah State Board of Education’s Data Gateway system. We will also share proposed updates and changes to Data Gateway, and how educators can use new assessment data to inform instructional practice. This session will employ hands-on activities and group discussion to foster engagement and knowledge of data literacy, interpretation, and data-driven instruction. Classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and school and district leaders are encouraged to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring a personal electronic device with a web browser and internet access to fully participate in this session.

A HyperDoc is a digital document using as a Google Doc/Google slides. Where the components of the learning cycle have been pulled together into one central location. Within a single document, students are provided with hyperlinks to all of the resources they need to complete that learning cycle at their pace of learning. More student direct learning less teacher lecture learning.

Diversity vs. Disability

How can you tell if your EL student has a disability or is simply adjusting to a new culture and language? This session will explore the areas of language proficiency, achievement, behavior and adaptation to determine whether or not a student is progressing appropriately. Attendees will leave with information about "red flags" that might indicate the need for further information as well as a list of best practices for supporting EL students in the general education classroom.

Professional Development

This one-hour interactive presentation will consist of an overview with related data of the professional development opportunities available both on-site and via distance, through The University of Utah Reading Clinic (UURC). Our research-based Tier I models consist of Tier I Text (building fluency and comprehension for immediate and transfer level text), Writing About Text, Advanced Word Study and Morphology. Our Research-based Tier II models are Early Steps, Next Steps and Higher Steps--which consist of assisted reading on instructional level text, phonics, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. This presentation will also provide an overview of Tier III professional development opportunities for educators interested in learning how to effectively work with dyslexic students who need a more intensive intervention. Educators interested in the USBE Reading Interventionist Endorsement will enjoy the overview of our Tier III professional development opportunities, as well as our distance services for the Tier II Small Group option. The UURC also offers distance tutoring for students in rural areas. The last fifteen minutes of the presentation will be dedicated to Q&A.
